Alix 3C3 – Complete PC on a board

So the chosen hardware for this little project is the PC Engines Alix 3C3. It is tiny, measuring 16cm by 10cm and practically everything you could need is crammed onto the board. In case you need to expand, it has USB 2.0 and 2 mini-pci slots for expansion. Here is a little run down of the hardware specs…
Processor: AMD Geode 500Mhz – Reportedly pokey enough to run Windows XP – just about…
Memory: 256mb RAM – ot upgradeable as its soldered to the board. Should be plenty for most applications.
VGA, Audio IO: VGA will likely prove very useful in the development stage, although will probably not be used on the vessel.
Ethernet, USB2.0, Serial: Pretty standard really, but will be using USB and serial in the project!
mini-PCI: Will be required as the board has no on-board wifi!
So this looks to be exactly what is needed for this project. And the best spec? Power requirement – 7-20V DC and draws 2.5 watts at idle and 6 watts maxed out! Makes my 24inch iMac seem like a bloated fat slob at 280 watts…
